Test Creation - User's Manual

AB Test Creation Screen

This screen contains following areas and buttons from top to bottom:

Test Type Selection Area:

• Test type selection area: Here you can choose the test type you want to use. Choices are A/B, A/B Scale, A/B/C and A/B/X. Radio button indicating selected test type appears to be pushed down. Fields containing parameters used and buttons that are not used with selected test type are grayed and can not be altered. Test type can be changed. This affects to the parameters that are allowed to alter. Fields and buttons that are disabled does not affect to the selected test type.

Sampletype Selection Area:

• Here you can select the Samplerate used during the test. Radio button indicating selected rate appears to be pushed down.
• Output channels: field is used to select the number of output channels used when samples are played (1 or 2).

Sample Selection Area:

• Samples list box shows the names and id codes of the samples used in this test. It also contains the id codes and lenght of the pauses available to the test sequence. Each Sample id or Pause id can appear only once in the list box. Pauses and samples can be added to the list box or they can be deleted from it using the corresponding buttons. Supported sample type is .aiff. (Maybe also .wav in the future)
• Sample id field is used to give an identification code to a new sample which will be added to the samples list box. This code is used in result data instead of the filename. Each Sample id can be added only once to the list box. Samples and pauses can not have same names.
• Select sample file button is used to open the Load File Selection Dialog

  

  • Field on the top of the dialog shows the filtering options used to show files in the current directory. All unix wildcard characters can be used. Options affect after pressing Filter button.
  • Area on the left shows the subdirectories of the current directory.
  • Area on the right shows the files matching the filtering criteria. Filename can be selected by clicking it with the mouse.
  • The name of the selected file can be seen or written on the field below the file selection area.
  • OK button is used to accept the selected file and move its name to the filename field on the A/B test creation screen.
  • Filter button filters files from the current directory using the filtering options specified on the first field of the dialog.
  • Cancel button cancels the selection and closes the dialog.
• Filename field is used to tell which sample file corresponds the sample id which will be added to the samples list box. Each filename can appear many times in the list box. Filename can be written to the field or selected using Select sample file button and corresponding dialog.
• Pause id field is used to give an identification code to a new pause which will be added to the samples list box. This code is used in Sequence list box to identify pauses that will be used between samples. Each pause id can be added only once to the list box. Pauses and samples can not have same names.
• Pause length seconds field specifies how long time the new pause will last in seconds.
• Add sample button is used to pick up the samples used for this test. Pressing it will add the sample identified by filename and sample id to the samples list box. Each Sample id can appear only once in the list box.
• Add pause button is used to select the pauses used in this test. Pressing it will insert to the samples list box the a new pause having pause id and length (in seconds) specified in corresponding field. Pause Each new pause must have an unique pause id.
• Delete button is used to delete the selected item from the sample list box. Pressing it will remove selected sample file from the Samples list box but it doesn't affect the file itself.

Volume Control Area

• This area is used to specify if the testee can select the MCL volume (Most comfortable listening level) with a volume slider before the test is in progress. Vol min, Vol max, Vol ticks fields and Show dB values to testee button specify the scale of the Volume slider used to set the MCLL. If Vol ticks is set to 0 scale can not be seen beside the volume slider. Fixed Volume allows you to specify the listening level beforehand. Vol default is used to specify the default gain to scale the volume in decibels. (Use negative values to turn the volume down.)

Sequence Selection Area

• This area allows you to determine the sequence in which samples and pauses follow each other during the test. One can add items (A or B) or pauses from the Samples list box. The order in which the samples correspond the items A and B in each testitem, will be determined when the playlist is generated.

Time Control Area

• This area allows you to specify the time in seconds testee can use in answering the quetions. Wait forever is not selected you can tell with Warn after seconds will tell the test logic how many seconds to wait after the last sample is played after which a warning signals is shown to the user telling that the answering time is running out. Answer before seconds is used to tell how many seconds to wait after the last sample is played after which the answering time runs out and the user can no longer give his/her answer to that testitem. Test will continue with next testitem. Setting Answer before seconds to 0,0 gives the testee as much time as he/she wants to use to answer. In this situation test will not proceed before some answer is given.
