Testee UI - User's Manual

This document describes the use of the testee graphical user interface during the test. More technical documents of the Testee User Interface can be found in System Manual Testee UI.

A/B Scale Test

Test Procedure

In the beginning of a psychoacoustic test, the testee will be given instructions on the test. In this type of tests the testee will give grades to the samples by moving the slider beneath both letters A and B to the desired and accepting the answer by clicking the OK-button. In some tests testee can also adjust the most comfortable listening level (MCL) before the actual test. Volume slider is shown below.

In the beginning of the test a few first samples should be considered as training samples during which testee should accustom to the test procedure and the samples that will be played during the actual test. Answers given using these samples should be ignored.

Aim of this test type is to get grades to the samples answering to the stated question.

In the actual test the testee will listen the samples and answer as instructed until the samples run out.

Running The Test

In the beginning of the A/B scale test, before any samples are played, testee will see a screen where the OK- button is grayed and bars above the letters corresponding samples to be played are also grey. System is said to be idle.

When sample A starts to play, the bar above the letter A changes its colour to blue. OK-button is still disabled (grayed).

After sample A is played system stays in the idle state until sample B starts to play. Now the bar above the letter B changes its colour to blue. OK-button is still disabled (grayed).

This prosedure may be repeated one or more times and after that testee is allowed to give his/hers answer. This is indicated by changing the bars over both letters to green and enabling the OK-button. Now the testee can give the grades answering to the question stated in the test instructions. This will happen by giving grades to the samples by moving the slider beneath both letters A and B to the desired value and accepting the answer by clicking the OK-button. If there is no answering time limitations this state stays until the OK-button is pressed (clicked). After the answer has been given, system changes to the idle state and sliders return to the initial position.

If there are stated limitations to the answering time, system will change the colour of the bars to yellow after the given warn time. This indicates that aswering time is running out.

When the answering time is out and no answer is given, the colour of the bars chages to red for a moment. After this the system is idle again until next samples start to play. Answer can not be given until next pair of samples has been played.

After all samples have been played and the last answer is given or answering time for the last question has run out, window containing OK-button, sliders and bars disappears. Test is then over.
