Proceedings of the

6th NORDIC SIGNAL PROCESSING SYMPOSIUM – NORSIG 2004

June 9 - 11, 2004

Espoo, Finland

Foreword

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we would like to welcome all the participants to the 6th Nordic Signal Processing Symposium, NORSIG 2004, held June 9-11, 2004 in Espoo, Finland.

The Nordic Signal Processing Symposium is organized every two years and it is devoted to all aspects of theory, design, implementation and application of digital signal processing. This year, the Symposium is organized by the Helsinki University of Technology (Signal Processing Laboratory, and the Laboratory of Acoustics and Audio Signal Processing), University of Kuopio (A. I. Virtanen Institute for Molecular Sciences), and Tampere University of Technology (Institute of Signal Processing). The meeting starts with a tutorial day (subject: “Nonuniform sampling and polynomial-based interpolation” organized by Professor Tapio Saramäki), which is followed by two conference days consisting of 22 sessions.

We received this year 96 original proposals from which 87 were accepted. The first authors of the accepted papers come from 25 different countries. For the first time in the history of NORSIG meetings, we used full-paper review instead of evaluating extended abstracts. In addition, all the accepted papers are to be presented as oral presentations. Furthermore, the Proceedings of the 6th Nordic Signal Processing Symposium – NORSIG 2004, has been accepted to the IEEE Conference Publication Program.

We would like to warmly thank all the members of the Technical Committee for the review of the papers. Special thanks are reserved for the speakers of the tutorial day (Prof. Tapio Saramäki, Tampere University of Technology, Finland, and Prof. Farokh Marvasti, Sharif University of Technology, Iran) and to the plenary speaker (Prof. John H. L. Hansen, University of Colorado, USA). The financial contributions by the Academy of Finland and IEEE Finland section, as well as a donation by Nokia, and the Welcome Reception offered by the City of Espoo are highly appreciated.

We welcome all the participants to Congress and Seminar Centre Meripuisto and hope that you find the Symposium fruitful and pleasant.
