Biography:

Timo I. Laakso was born in Vantaa, Finland in 1961. He received the Master of Science in Technology, the Licentiate of Science in Technology, and the Doctor of Science in Technology degrees in electrical engineering in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Helsinki University of Technology in 1987, 1990, and 1991, respectively. After graduation he was 1992-1994 with the Nokia Research Center, Helsinki, Finland, working on the research of 3rd-generation mobile communication systems. In 1994-1996 he was Lecturer at the University of Westminster, London. Since 1996 he is professor of signal processing at the Helsinki University of Technology.

Dr. Laakso has ca. 100 journal and conference publications on design and implementation of digital filters and mobile communications systems. His interests are in the design and implementation of digital signal processing algorithms for telecommunications. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a member of the Finnish Clarinet Society.
