Last Minute Info

Please find below some details about the presentation facilities and getting to Mohonk. Please note also that informal dress code is suggested throughout the workshop - coats and ties aren't necessary for dinner. Unfortunately there will be no internet services provided at Mohonk Mountain House on behalf of the workshop. The guests are welcome to use the telephone lines in the hotel rooms for modem connections at their own expense.

Equipment for presentations:

Overhead projector
Audio system with DAT, CD, MD, cassette, wireless microphones
Video system (NTSC only!)
Video projector with data projection capabilities
Slide projector

The authors are strongly encouraged to print out viewgraphs even if they are planning on using their laptops (PC or Mac) for presentation. Audio playback from laptops is supported. Please note that the European PAL VHS format is not supported!

Note to presenters

Presentations are scheduled every 20 minutes. We suggest a 15 minute presentation, with 3 minutes for questions, and 2 minutes for transition to the next speaeker. Presenters should check in with their session chairs prior to the session; this a good time to test the presentation equipment.

How to get to Mohonk:
 

 

Mohonk Mountain House is a convenient 90-minute trip from Manhattan. The resort is located six miles west of the New York State Thruway in the Town of New Paltz, NY and is easily accesible by auto, train, bus or air.

By Car:
From New York City 
- Go north on the NYS Thruway (87 north) to Exit 18, New Paltz. * 

From Albany and Northern Catskills 
- Go south on the NYS Thruway (87 south) to Exit 18, New Paltz. * 

From Northern New England 
- Follow main highways to Albany, NY. Go south on the NYS Thruway (87 south) to Exit 18, New Paltz. * 

From Southern New York (East of Hudson River) 
- Follow main highways to Route 84 (west). Follow Route 84 (across Newburgh-Beacon Bridge) to NYS Thruway (north). Go north on the NYS Thruway (87 north) one exit to Exit 18, New Paltz. * 

From Long Island Sound and Southern Connecticut 
- Follow New England Thruway Route 95 (west) to Cross-Westchester Expressway Route 287. Continue to NYS Thruway (87 north). Go north on Thruway to Exit 18, New Paltz. * 

From New Jersey 
- Follow Route 17 (north) or Garden State Parkway (north) to NYS Thruway north (Route 87). Take NYS Thruway to Exit 18, New Paltz. * 

From Boston and Vicinity 
- Follow Massachusetts Turnpike Route 90 (west) to NYS Thruway south. Go south on Thruway (Route 87) to Exit 18, New Paltz. * 

From Pennsylvania and Delaware Areas 
- From the Wilmington, Delaware area use Interchange No. 1 at the New Jersey Turnpike and from the Philadelphia area, follow routes to Entrance No. 4 of the New Jersey Turnpike, near Camden. Continue north on the New Jersey Turnpike to the Garden State Parkway. Drive north on Garden State Parkway to the NYS Thruway (87 north) to Exit 18, New Paltz. * From areas outside of Philadelphia, take Pennsylvania Turnpike to New Jersey Turnpike Entrance No. 6 and continue as directed above to NYS Thruway Exit 18, New Paltz. * 

From Binghamton and Southern Catskills 
- Take State Route 17 to Liberty, then follow State Route 52 to Ellenville and turn left on U.S. Route 209. Continue on Route 209 (north) to Route 213. Turn right (east) on Route 213 to High Falls. In High Falls, turn right across from Eggs Nest Restaurant. Follow Mohonk Road 5 miles to Mohonk gate. 

* After leaving the NYS Thruway at Exit 18, turn left at the traffic light onto Route 299/Main Street. Follow Main Street through New
Paltz. Immediately after crossing the bridge over the Wallkill River, turn right (there is a "MOHONK" sign). Bear left and follow
Mountain Rest Road and Mohonk signs to the Mohonk Gatehouse. (NOTE: Mohonk is located six miles west of New Paltz, measured
from the Thruway Exit.) 

Bus Service:
Available from Albany (Trailways Bus Terminal, 360 Broadway); Port Authority in New York City; Ridgewood, New Jersey (Route 17); locations in southern New York State or Long Island serviced by the Adirondack Trailways bus line. Destination is the New Paltz bus station. Please notify the Mohonk Transportation Department  (tel. 914-256 2015) at least 2 hours prior to arrival/departure time. Transportation to and from the New Paltz bus station is complimentary to Mohonk overnight guests.

Train Service:
Destination is Poughkeepsie Train Station by Metro North and Amtrak trains. Metro North trains leave New York City from Grand Central Statoin. Amtrak trains leave New York City from Penn Station. A minimum of 24 hours advance notice (to Mohonk Transportation desk) of arrival/departure time is requested. There is a charge for transportation from Poughkeepsie to Mohonk, please check with the Mohonk Transportation desk.

By Air:
Mohonk Mountain House is 25 miles from Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, 70 miles from Albany Airport, and less than 100 miles from New York City area airports.
