GENERAL INFORMATION



Language

The official language of the Conference is English. It will be used for all printed material and presentations. No interpretation service will be provided.


Airport transfer

Helsinki-Vantaa airport is located about 20 km from Otaniemi, Espoo. The average driving time between the airport and Espoo is 30 minutes. Finnair city buses serve a connection from the airport to the center of Helsinki. Espoo can be reached by local buses from the Helsinki city center. Taxis are also easily available.

Public transportation in the Helsinki and Espoo area

The Conference Venue and hotel in Espoo can be reached by buses departing from the main bus station. Bus number 102, platform 51 or buses number 194-195, platform 50 will take you from the main bus station to Espoo.A one-way bus ticket Helsinki-Espoo costs 17 FIM and tickets can be purchased from the driver. You can also take a taxi from the Helsinki city center (driving time about 15 minutes), cost approximately FIM 120.

Currency and banks

The Finnish currency is Finnish Markka (FIM). One USD equals approximately 7 FIM and one EURO approximately 5,95 FIM. Most Finnish services accept major credit cards. Facilities for cashing travellers'9 cheques in Finland are available at banks (opening hours 9.30-16.00) and at most hotels. Banks are closed on Saturdays and Sundays except for banks at the Helsinki International Airport. Foreign exchange agencies for example "Forex" in the city center are open on weekdays.

Electricity

The electric current in Finland is 220V (50 Hz). Plugs and sockets are the same as in the Continental countries of the European Union. British and American participants need plug adapters for electrical appliances.

Insurance

The conference organizers cannot accept liability for personal injuries sustained, for loss of, or damage to property belonging to conference participants (or their accompanying persons), either during or as a result of the conference. Please check the validity of your own insurance.

Letter of Invitation

The organizing committee will be pleased to send a letter of invitation to any individual requesting one. It is to be understood that such an invitation is intended to help potential participants raise travel funds or obtain a visa. It is not a commitment on the part of the conference to provide any financial support. You may request such a letter of invitation from the ICAD 2001 secretary

Time Difference

The time in Finland is 2 hours ahead of Greenwich mean time (GMT).

Travelling to Finland by air

Major international airlines fly directly to the Helsinki International Airport from most capitals and major cities in Europe, USA and Japan. Please note that conference participants are not insured by the Conference. Participants are advised to obtain an appropriate insurance on their own account.

Visa

Finland is a member of the European Union and visas are not required for citizens of EU-countries and many other countries. A valid passport is required. Participants requiring a visa for entry to Finland are strongly advised to make their application in their home country at least three months before intended date of travel. For more information, please contact your nearest embassy or consulate of Finland or consult your travel agency.

Weather

The average day-time temperature in July is +20-23 0C. A light jacket or cardigan is advisable for evening outdoor wear.

Liability

The Conference Organization and the Congress Agency (TSG-Congress) act as agents only in securing hotels, transport and travel services and shall in no event be liable for acts or omissions in the event of injury, damage, loss, accident, delay of irregularity of any kind whatsoever during arrangements organised through contractors or the employees of such contractors in carrying out services. Hotel and transportation services are subject to the terms and conditions under which they are offered to the public in general. The Conference Organization and the Congress Agency reserve the right to make changes where deemed necessary, without prior notice to parties concerned. All disputes are subject to Finnish Law.
